“Overall winner: The New Forest”
(the judges were unanimous in their praise)

The Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards are the largest of their kind in the world. We are fortunate in having, in Anthony Climpson, a New Forest Tourism Destination Manager whose enthusiasm has been paramount in gaining this prestigious award.

On a much smaller scale, at Harvest house, working towards our eco friendly goal is an on going project, and we have benefited from the commitment, support and education available to local businesses. The Green Leaf Tourism Scheme and the New Forest Marque Associate membership have been attainable benchmarks, and we have now requested accreditation from the national body, the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

We have adopted a number of eco-efficient systems, in both our energy efficiency and in our waste management.

We support the New Forest Marque as our breakfast menu illustrates, and where appropriate source our materials locally.

We support the New Forest Trust, a totally independent organisation whose prime object is to raise money for projects that will ensure the long- term stability of the New Forest. A small amount of your accommodation account, with your agreement, will go to this Trust.

We are fortunate to live and work in a unique part of England. We hope that your stay will be enhanced by your support of our environmental goals.

Green Leaf Tourism Scheme
Green Leaf Tourism Scheme – This New Forest tourism business is taking important steps to a more sustainable future. By choosing a Green Leaf business, you are playing your part in reducing your Carbon Footprint, supporting New Forest wildlife, and distinctive New Forest culture and communities.

Additional information on this classification scheme is available from Green Leaf Tourism Scheme.

New Forest Tourism Association
New Forest Tourism Association was formed in 1989 to work in partnership with New Forest District Council to promote the New Forest as a quality year-round holiday and business destination. Today, NFTA works closely with both the New Forest District Council, National Park Authority Forestry Commission to both promote and market the New Forest as one of the premier tourism destinations within the UK.

Additional information on this classification scheme is available from The New Forest.

New Forest Marque
The development of the New Forest Marque® means that people can choose food and goods which have been grown, reared, caught, brewed or produced in the New Forest area. It allows local producers to market their produce under a collective and easily identifiable New Forest symbol, whilst at the same time reassuring consumers about the traceability of the food they buy.

Additional information on this classification scheme is available from The New Forest.

New Forest Breakfast
The ‘New Forest Breakfast’ was developed to encourage stronger links between small tourism businesses and local producers in the New Forest. Research in the past undertaken by Tourism South East had shown that B&B’s and small hotels were interested in using local produce in their business but did not know enough about where to source the produce, nor do they find in practical to get produce from a number of different outlets.
